Practices

  • We offer coaching in sprints, hurdles, relays, middle/long distance, high jump, long jump and throws.

  • The 2025 season beginnings on April 14th and ends in late July.

    • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.

    • Time: 6pm-7:30/7:45pm CST.

      • After the first couple of weeks, we will also host specialty practices for Long Jump, Throws, Hurdles, and High Jump. Each event will have a specific night and we will communicate this when it gets closer. This allows extra time for the athletes to work on these.

        • NOTE: Speciality practices will start at 5pm CST, after a couple of weeks.

      • It is important to start practice promptly, please have your child at practice 10 minutes early to use the restroom, change shoes, or ask the coach a question.

What to Bring

  • Water

  • Running shoes

  • Spikes (1/4 inch pyramid spikes)

  • Wear layers, as weather will vary (cold, hot, wet, windy) during the season

Athletes don’t wear out spikes as often as they wear out running shoes. With that said, we have a large inventory of gently used and cleaned spikes from years prior. Spikes will not be needed the first couple weeks of practice however we will bring they out in order to size match with each child accordingly.

If you want to purchase new you certainly can Fitness Sports is a great resource.

Please ask for Excaliburs discount of 15% if you decide to get your spikes or running shoes there.

What to Expect

Each practice will begin with a warm-up run and dynamic stretching.

Workouts consist of skills, drills, and games. Practice ends with cool-down stretches and conditioning.

Central Iowa Excaliburs will attempt to post weather cancellations via our Facebook, Twitter, text, and email by 5:00 pm CST. Practice will be stopped if there is heavy rain and/or lightning in the immediate area.
